Introduction

The following links below are directed at users on macOS and Windows that are looking to have a bit more privacy while browsing the internet. It is highly recommended to read through the capabilities of each Add-on and it's functionality. Edit: Jan 2022 removed Smart Referer and replaced User-Agent Switcher add on.

Firefox by Mozilla

  1. Use this link to download and install Firefox
  2. Open Firefox, click "File", and select "Preferences"
  3. Select "Privacy & Security" on the left hand side of the "Preferences" page
  4. There are three options titled, "Standard", "Strict", and "Custom". Select Custom, check all options underneath "Custom" with "Cross-site and social media trackers" selected for Cookies and "All Windows" selected for Tracking Content.
  5. Browse to all the pages below within Firefox

uBlock Origin by Raymond Hill

  1. Click this link and click the "Add To Firefox" button
  2. Click the new uBlock Origin icon on the top right of your browser and select the icon with three horizontal lines with circles on each line
  3. Add a check for all boxes and the drop down's boxes except for "Ignore generic cosmetic filters" and "Import..."

Privacy Badger by EFF Technologists

  1. Click this link and click the "Add To Firefox" button
  2. Click the new Privacy Badger icon on the top right of your browser and select gear icon
  3. On the "General Settings" tab, add a check for the top three options and "Prevent WebRTC from leaking local IP address"

HTTPS Everywhere by EFF Technologists

  1. Click this link and click the "Add To Firefox" button
  2. Right-click the new HTTPS Everywhere icon on the top right of your browser and select "Remove From Toolbar"

Decentraleyes by Thomas Rientjes

  2. Click the new User-Agent Switcher icon on the top right of your browser, Select "Random Mode"
  3. Right-click the new Firefox Multi-Account Containers icon on the top right of your browser and select "Remove From Toolbar"

Temporary Containers by stoically

  1. Click this link and click the "Add To Firefox" button
  2. In the top menu click on "Tools" and select "Add-ons"
  3. On the left hand side of the page click on "Extensions", scroll to "Temporary Containers", select the ellipsis icon with the three horiontal dots, and hit "Preferences"
  4. Within the "General" tab of the Temporary Containers Prefrences page check "Automatic Mode", check "Random Container Color", for the "Container Number" select "Reuse Available Numbers"
  5. (OPTIONAL) Go to the "Advanced" tab, select "Delete History", and check the box for "Delete History Temporary Containers"

NOTE:

It is important to think about each browser tab's color/numerical ID shown in the url as it's own browser instance. For example, if you logged into Gmail in tmp1 color red, open a new tab identified as tmp2 color blue for Youtube, you will not be logged into the gmail.com account on youtube in the tab identified as tmp2 color Blue.

You must navigate through the service's interface to open new tabs if you'd like an account for that particular service signed into two or more tabs. For example, if you logged into Gmail in tmp1 color red, click the "Google Apps" icon identified as 3x3 circles on the top right of the Gmail page to select Youtube, a new tab will open identifying as tmp1 color red with the user signed in.
